El Santo Padre señaló que “la pasión por lo humano, por toda la humanidad encuentra en este momento de la historia serias dificultades”, y denuncia que “la distancia entre la obsesión por el propio bienestar y la felicidad compartida de la humanidad se amplía hasta tal punto que da la impresión de que se está produciendo un verdadero cisma entre el individuo y la comunidad humana”.
Por lo tanto, el Papa aseguró que “es urgente intensificar el estudio y la comparación de los efectos de esta evolución de la sociedad en un sentido tecnológico para articular una síntesis antropológica que esté a la altura de este desafío de época” y alertó que el área de su experiencia calificada “no puede limitarse, pues, a resolver problemas planteados por situaciones específicas de conflicto ético, social o legal”.
En estos años, el Santo Padre destacó que la Academia “ha podido desarrollar iniciativas de estudio, formación e información para que quede de manifiesto que la ciencia y la técnica, puestas al servicio de la persona humana y de sus derechos fundamentales, contribuyen al bien integral del hombre y a la realización del proyecto divino de salvación”.
El Papa Francisco dijo que esta pasión ha animado la actividad de la Pontificia Academia para la Vida desde su fundación hace veinticinco años, por San Juan Pablo II, siguiendo la recomendación del siervo de Dios y gran científico Jérôme Lejeune. “Este último, claramente convencido de la profundidad y rapidez de los cambios que se producen en el ámbito biomédico, consideró oportuno sostener un compromiso más estructurado y orgánico en este frente”, subrayó.
“En nuestro tiempo, la Iglesia está llamada a relanzar vigorosamente el humanismo de la vida que surge de esta pasión de Dios por la criatura humana. El compromiso para comprender, promover y defender la vida de todo ser humano toma su impulso de este amor incondicional de Dios”, escribe el Papa. Añade que “la belleza y el atractivo del Evangelio nos muestran que el amor al prójimo no se reduce a la aplicación de unos criterios de conveniencia económica y política o a ‘algunos acentos doctrinales ... La misiva anticipa la próxima Asamblea General que se llevará a cabo del 25 al 27 de febrero con el tema de “Robótica. Personas, máquinas y salud” en el Aula Nueva del Sínodo.
En la carta titulada “La comunidad humana” (humana communitas) publicada este 15 de enero, el Santo Padre asegura que “la comunidad humana ha sido el sueño de Dios desde antes de la creación del mundo”. Por ello pide “restaurar la evidencia de esta pasión de Dios por la criatura humana y su mundo”.

El Papa Francisco afirmó que “la Iglesia está llamada a relanzar vigorosamente el humanismo de la vida”, en una carta enviada con ocasión del 25° aniversario de la Pontificia Academia para la Vida fundada el 11 de febrero 1994.
