La voz de un hombre conocido por sus grandes dotes como orador se ha acallado para siempre. De origen español, el escritor, presentador de radio y de televisión y ex sacerdote Jaime Benito de Aldeaseca, nacido en Aldeaseca de la Frontera (Salamanca), murió en Miami a la edad de 76 años. En el púlpito, era conocido como un orador excepcional, talento que llevó a su trabajo como locutor de radio y televisión en Cuba y, después, a Radio Mambí de Miami.
Horacio Aguirre, editor del Diario Las Américas, dijo: "La comunidad iberoamericana en general y la comunidad cubana, en particular, han perdido a un gran periodista, un gran formador de la opinión pública, un defensor de la moralidad y un digno representante de nuestra sociedad."

The voice of a man noted for his gifts as an orator was stilled Wednesday. Spanish-born writer, radio talk-show host and former priest Jaime Benito de Aldeaseca died in Miami at the age of 76.
Details of his death were not available as relatives asked to grieve in private. Aldeaseca reportedly suffered from cancer.
People who knew him said he was born in the Spanish town of Aldeaseca, near Salamanca. He was ordained a Catholic priest in Spain and later moved to Cuba.
On the pulpit, he was known as an outstanding speaker, a talent he carried into his work as a radio and television host in Cuba after he quit the priesthood. He was best known for his Sunday talk show Mientras el mundo gira (As the World Turns) on CMQ-TV.
After moving to Miami, and until recently, he hosted a talk show with the same name on Radio Mambi (WAQI 710).
El Nuevo Herald columnist Fausto Miranda remembered him from his days in Havana, when Aldeaseca was a priest at the Jesus de Miramar church.
"He was charming," Miranda said. "He would go into cafes and chat with the people. In the 1950s, he went to the Dominican Republic and from there to the United States."
"He leaves a huge void among us because he always was an extraordinary personality," said Radio Mambi colleague Armando Perez Roura. "As a fellow worker, he was affable, friendly and well-informed."
Lawyer Grisel Ybarra, a friend of 18 years, described Aldeaseca as "one of the finest men in the world and someone who loved Cuba best. I have lost a good friend...."
Horacio Aguirre, editor of Diario Las Americas, said: "The Ibero-American community in general and the Cuban community in particular have lost a great journalist, a great shaper of public opinion, a defender of morality and a worthy representative of our society."
Aldeaseca is survived by his wife, Angela, children Lucia and Jaime and granddaughter Isabella. A Mass will be said at 11 a. m. today at St. Brendan's Catholic Church, 8725 SW 32nd St. Caballero Rivera Woodlawn-Westchester Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
